February 9, 2003February 9, 2003ATTENDING: Ann Barden, Jane Grace Bowman, Barbara Brodsky, Cassie Cammann, Corty Cammann, Jackie
Deron, Martha Zingo. SANGHA SHARING: Ann Barden shared her feelings about the altar. MINUTES from December's meeting were distributed and accepted. BUILDING USAGE Committee: distributed interim policy statements. THE MOVE IN Committee: $1,000 is left from the donations for the furnishings. There remains the kitchen finishing details, boot rack and storage closet. Dianne Austin is donating a small refrigerator. AUTOMATIC BANK WITHDRAWALS FOR DONATIONS: Only four persons are using this at present. We are trying it for six months. Email, snail mail and newsletters reminders will be forthcoming. ACTION ITEM: Su Hansen and Ann Barden will explore why the Digit Realm costs are so high--$265 move in cost and $151 monthly (doubled). ACTION ITEM: DSC hold Microsoft stock from a donor. Pat has suggested we hold the stock through the upcoming stock split and dividend. Ann Barden and Martha Zingo will consult with a banker regarding our best action. They will report to the Board which can then make decisions. NEWSLETTER: ACTION ITEM: Jane Grace will organize the deadlines and compile a report regarding the newsletters to be included into the Board handbook Policies section. Barbara and Jane Grace sent out a questionnaire randomly to 100 recipients. Eight replied with a huge spectrum of feedback, i.e., the calendar could be clearer. BOARD APPROVED business card advertising in the newsletter from sangha members only as a financial support. Barbara and Jane Grace will oversee the submission. ACTION ITEM: Jane Grace will connect with two volunteers to help with the final prep and mailing of the newsletter. Barbara suggests that we need a production coordinator to get to know the job well and consistently to do it. ACTION ITEM: Ann Barden will find two people to serve with Corty Cammann on the Building Oversight Committee. The Building Oversight Committee will serve as long-term oversight of our residency at 3003 Washtenaw. John Gutoskey, Lou Weir and Dottie Coyne served as a Moving In Committee. Dianne Austin, Susan Klimist and Dottie Coyne are serving now as a Furniture and Decoration Committee. Corty Cammann, Kate LeShock and Dianne Austin are serving as the Building Usage Committee which will report to the Building Oversight Committee. To date, the Building Usage Committee has reported on our liability regarding fires and has written interim policies around fire/flame, garbage, rental, food, etc. ACTION ITEM: Jackie Deron, as part of the Sangha Service Committee, will work with Su and committee heads to find out the sangha needs. Kalindi and Su will send out a monthly email and post sangha needs on the center's bulletin board. The Deep Spring newsletter will contain a "sangha needs list also. BOARD APPROVED a policy for the altar at Deep Spring Center that candles can be used on the main shelf but no incense at all and no candles on the bottom shelf or in the small boxes. DISCUSSION/REFLECTION: The altar is a very sensitive issue, dealing not only with the physical altar but the definition of the sangha itself. ACTION ITEM: Cassie will approach Dianne Austin, Susan Klimist and Dottie Coyne if they would be willing to serve as a committee for the altar. There was much discussion of the use of the Library Room as income producing for the sangha. BOARD APPROVED a decision to let Kate LeShock give a percentage of her dana received as payment of rent for the library room rather than the set rental fee. This will be an experiment for three months. The meeting adjourned at 3:58 pm. Respectfully submitted, |
