Attending: Jane Grace Bowman, Barbara Brodsky, Kris Kurnit, George SanFacon, Pat Shalis, Kalindi Trietley.

Minutes for January 22, 2001 Board Meeting: Submitted and approved.

New Board Members: Board is seeking one more new member. Sherry Hansen was nominated and approved. Kris will ask Sherry if she is willing to serve as a Board member.

Amendment to By-Laws: Received back from Michigan Department of Consumer and Industry Services. Copies distributed to Board members.

Donations: Dana (our bookkeeper) is keeping track of donations. It was decided that the newsletters will include a general “Thank You” and listing of donor names, without amounts.

Retreat Committee Candidate List: Pat provided list of local Sangha members who have consistently attended two or three recent retreats and are not presently engaged in other Sangha work. Hal and Leslie are now on the Retreat Committee. However, Pat is doing registration and George is helping out with room and work assignments. Possible members include: Jackie Deron, Jim Whiteside, Bernie Clifford and RoseMoon Wisniewski.

“Whole Sangha” E-Mail List: Barb is working on this. So far there are 150 names on the list.

Fund-Raiser/Membership Invitational: Committee has been working on the upcoming fund raiser. Board was requested to define what “membership” means. It was agreed that a member is someone who both: (1) draws on the resources offered by Deep Spring, and (2) is committed to giving back to the community as he or she is able to in terms of time, energy and/or material resources. A general outline and plan for the get together was also discussed. It will include addressing both the need to have a steady monthly income for general expenses and a building fund. Board decided option to buy is preferable to renting a space.

Is Deep Spring Center a Buddhist Organization?: Not in an institutional sense. While it is true that we use many Buddhist practices, we have not adopted much of the ritual form or institutional ideology. The term Dharma Center resonated with the Board, as well as Center for Spiritual Practice and Inquiry.

Last Minute Retreat Cancellations: Board needs to discuss possible refund for last minute retreat cancellations. Due to lack of time, this was tabled for next meeting.
